The Exciting Launch of the 2024 Shop Class

Last year marked a significant milestone for The Gibson McGath Foundation’s Shop Class as the first-ever cohort of high school students completed the construction of a Tiny Home.

High school students came together to tackle the challenge of building a fully functional Tiny Home from the ground up. Under the leadership of JAG Development Co-Founders Jeff and Addi Gibson, and the Foundation Director, Eddie McGath,  these students learned essential skills in construction, design, and teamwork. From framing walls to installing plumbing and electrical systems, every step of the build provided valuable hands-on experience.

The completion of the Tiny Home was more than just a proud moment for the students; it was a tangible result of their dedication and growth. The home was a symbol of their newfound confidence and abilities, showcasing what’s possible when young people are empowered to dream big and work hard.

Building on the success of last year’s program, The Gibson McGath Foundation is thrilled to announce that the 2024 Shop Class is already underway, having kicked off on August 19, 2024.

This year, a new group of high school students will take on the challenge of constructing another Tiny Home. With the experience gained from last year, this new class will not only follow in the footsteps of the inaugural group but also push the boundaries of what they can achieve. The Gibson McGath Foundation’s mission remains clear: to inspire the next generation to build by equipping them with the skills and confidence they need to excel in future careers, whether in construction, design, or any other field they choose to pursue.

As we celebrate the achievements of last year’s class and look forward to what this year’s students will accomplish, we invite the community to get involved. Whether through donations, mentorship, or simply spreading the word, your support helps The Gibson McGath Foundation continue to offer this transformative program to high school students. Contact the Foundation Director, Eddie McGath at (702) 275-0322 to find out how you can get involved.

Stay tuned for updates on this year’s Tiny Home project and the inspiring stories of the students who will bring it to life. Together, we can build a brighter future—one Tiny Home at a time.
